This paper aims to analyse and describe the functioning of pronominal anaphora in English-Portuguese and Portuguese-English simultaneous interpreting. For this purpose, we selected a random sample of 24 speeches from the plenary sessions of the European Parliament. This small sample was taken from a larger pool of speech transcripts, which will be included in an interpreting corpus to be compiled at the University of Minho. We begin by providing some theoretical notions on interpreting and on the recent paradigm of corpus-based interpreting studies. Finally we analyse some examples to illustrate the instances where pronominal anaphora poses a challenge for the interpreters.
